Thomas R. Nides (b. ca. 1961[1]) is the current United States Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, having assumed that office on January 3, 2011.
Thomas R. Nides was educated at the University of Minnesota.[2]
From 1986 to 1989, Nides was chief of staff of Rep. Tony Coelho (DāCA-15).[3] He was next chief of staff of Rep. Tom Foley (DāWA-5) from 1989 to 1993, and in 1994, he served as chief of staff of United States Trade Representative Mickey Kantor.[3]
Nides joined Fannie Mae as Senior Vice President of Human Resources in 1998, holding this position until 2001.[3] He was then Chief Accounting Officer of Credit Suisse USA from 2001 to 2004.[3] From 2005 to 2010, he was Chief Operating Officer of Morgan Stanley.[4]
President of the United States Barack Obama nominated Nides to be Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources on September 29, 2010.[5] He was confirmed by the Senate on December 22, 2010, and sworn in to office on January 3, 2011.[6]
